What is SEO? SEO stand for Search Engine Optimation. Its what every webmaster must know. A great SEO technique will bring great visitor to the site. And this is what webmaster must know. After going in webmaster thing this recent years. I starting to realize that LINK, is the key to Awesome SEO. Why? that because the search engine knows a website from the link. Link is like a path or road to a website. So a great site must have a great link. Or I must say, never underestimate the power of link in the internet. So what kind of link is good for search engine? are all link good for search engine? and how to build, a massive link?. That’s today what we are going to talk about.

Unique Link

The first thing that we need to know is make the link unique enough for search engine to see, or to record to their data base. example of some unique link here:

http://www.somedomain.com/mycategories/mysubcategory/myarticle_title_about.html

http://www.somedomain.com/mycategories/myarticle-topic-about.html

This kind of link its just good for search engine, but its also good for people who search to certain search engine. By using this kind of link people are able to know the content, just by seen the link. this is different when you use this kind of link bellow for example:

http://www.somedomain.com/mycategories/myarticle051206.html

http://www.somedomain.com/mycategories/mysubcategory/myarticle15082006.html

http://www.somedomain.com/mycategories/mycontentarticletopicabout.html

When people search through search engine to find some information, people are more likely to click link on the first example, rather then the link in above example. although that links is still search engine friendly.

Search engine Friendly link

Because internet today has became more popular with web-application, like using scripts ( php script, cgi script, etc ) some of the link didn’t look good enough, or is not search engine friendly. for example like this:

http://www.somedomain.com/somescriptl/index.php?action=view&id=4567

This kind of link is not just bad for people who do search through the search engine but also bad for the search engine its self. But don’t worry, there is the solution for this is using the “mod_rewrite” function. Which needs a “.htacces” files to work. I guess most of the web application today have this kind solution for a webmaster to use with their script. so not to worry.

Link Building

The next think after we made some nice link, a unique link and search engine friendly link. Its time for us promote the link. Or doing what we call link building. There several way of doing this. Bellow I’m going to explain one by one.

Search engine

Submit your site to search engine, by using that kind of link, you can tell the search engine to come to your site crawl your content. Submit to as many as you can, the more the better. but if you dont have much time to doit, you can just submit to the major search engine ( example like google.com, yahoo.com, msn.com, alltheweb.com ) and the rest will follow by it self.

Directory.

Submit your link to directory too, like to the most popular one dmoz.com. but I didn’t recomanded too, because I think its hard to get to that. What you can do is submit to free directory, my recommendation is using free directory with no reciprocal ( or link-back ) you can find a lot of directory like this by googleing. ( but you can alway start by submit your site at Xoogie.net). and remember you do this on everytime you see a new directory lunch. How do we know a new directory lunch? You can join the webmaster forum. There are alot of out there. But I recomanded digitalpoint and webmaster talk.

Topsite

Join a Topsite. I’m very recomanded this. Why? because, for me topsite is one of the good thing or bring good thing for your link. It’s good to increase your pagerank and, site popularity. Because usually topsite get the higher pagerank, even when its just a start, slowly but sure topsite will gain more pagerank. and putting our link to the higher pagerank site will also increase our link pagerank. You can join topsite, that appropriate for your site, such as gamin, proxy, etc. To find the right topsite, you can always check at your opponent site, or you can join ours “topsite.xoogie.net“. we have a lot of categories there.

Link exchange

Do some link exchange with other webmaster, it’s good for your link. Especially your link put in the index page of other site. Its called direct-link by the search engine and of course its better than deep-link. You can do this by joining link exchange group, or going to forum, etc.

Community site

I think The well know community site is forum, You can put your link in your signature, so everytime you post your link will appear. and of course you can keep posting. The other community site is like article share example like digg.com. video share like youtube.com. or other like friendster.com, myspace.com, etc.

RSS

Provide RSS link from your site. if You have RSS link, and your RSS link, being parse by other site ( its a script that I’ve mention in my recent post “RSS for Rich” ), Its more likely your link to be crawl by search engine. and of course your site will became more popular.

So after doing the link building thing, its more likely your site to crawl fassst by search engine spider. Get higher pagerank, increase your site popularity. And that’s why I say “Link key to Awesome SEO”
